God’s Word: But I gain nothing if I do not have love.
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. Love is not rude, is not selfish, and does not get upset with others. Love does not count up wrongs that have been done. Love takes no pleasure in evil but rejoices over the truth. Love patiently accepts all things. It always trusts, always hopes, and always endures. Love never ends. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NIV

Encouragement Shared:
I gain nothing if I do not have love, I do not show love, or love from a pure heart. As I read my morning devotional, it speaks about joy. – Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, LORD. Psalm 89:15 … How can one have joy and say they are walking in the Light of His presence, if they do not have love? I began to examine my life, my thoughts, my attitude, my actions and the meditations of my heart. Is it pleasing to the Lord? Am I walking in the light of his presence? It’s hard to appreciate the glorious light of his presence with worries that lead to anxiety on my mind. Focusing on what is needed instead of being thankful what is provided. Also focusing on my physical pain, my physical limitations, instead of feeling the joy for what I am able to do. Focusing on these things does not bring joy, instead it invites anxiety along with other attitudes that are not love. These attitudes bring on indignation, caused by the root of pride.

Remain Close to the Truths of God’s Word:
I’ve seen it all too often, and if we are not careful, and lose sight of truths that speak into our lives, to teach, direct and strengthen we can fall into that attitude of indignation. For my very own life, I have suffered that damaging place leading me to depression to the point that a debilitating illness took over my life. As of late, my work situation has not been very positive mainly because of the little hours, and the low compensation… The past three years have been more difficult as time goes by. Then I find myself listening to co-workers complaints about the very same scenario. Instead of saying, “I am going to pray for you and everyone in this situation.” I say nothing, I do nothing to encourage, and then that attitude of indignation comes in pulling me down. It’s an evil gravitational pull because begins a spiral effect of negative thinking keeping me bound in this place. The Place: Not trusting anyone more importantly the Lord, leaving me devoid not experiencing the joy of His presence.

Indignation is a Destroyer:
Focusing too much on self or on our circumstance can keep us from the truths of the word sown into our hearts. I know bitterness all too well, and indignation is a destroyer. We need to follow those commands that set us free to live a qualitative life regardless of the outward circumstance. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Paul spent his entire life living it … Yes; beloved we can do all things through Christ that gives us strength. We need the joy to reign in our entire being so that we can live a life of love. If you find your fuse is short, or putting your own expectations of self, on others by being overly critical, cynical or even sarcastic … then unfortunately we are not walking in love, clearly these are not displaying the joy of the Lord.

God’s Word – O daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you— if you find my lover, what will you tell him? Tell him I am faint with love. Song of Song 5:8

Encouragement Shared:
God’s Love is Faithful! ~

As I read the verse in Song of Song, it is a plea of a bride searching for her missing groom. It is a picture of us being separated from Christ. In our sufferings we must cling to the cross, consider the trials as joys that is blessed hope of Christ working in us increasing our faith, refining us through perseverance, character, and hope. [James 1] As we go thorough trails, joys are not at the top of our minds. As we go through trials we must remember r to search our hearts and ask; Is this really a trial or is it a consequence for sin? So often the pride of our heart deceives us and brings us low. Obediah 1;3-4 Pride hides and lies to us keeping us in blindness. Beloved, the scriptures state; We must go through many hardships before we enter the kingdom. [Acts 14:22] Our faith is exercised by our reaction through our actions in the midst of our troubles.

Faith & Trust Preserves: The Psalmist writes in the midst of our troubles you [God the Father] preserve our life. Psalm 138:7

I personally have this verse written on the tablet of my heart … it is a promise that I often cling onto tightly. It is a promise that has tested to definitely be true, time after time. I can share with you my person hardships, brokenness and many spiritual disciplines God’s faithful love as written in His word is true love. It is also a faithfulness that is beyond any human measure. It is through the difficulties that I can share that have created my faith to grow… and enables me to persevere under trail. In my own strength this can not be done; In my own strength is where I fail. It is through the illumination through study time in the scriptures revelation comes at the exact appointed time.

There is always going to be trials beloved, and with great assurance of God’s word there is always victory…
Often preceded by revelation … followed repentance, then God’s redeeming grace. In the battle for the wage against sin through Christ we can win.
On our own strength and resources we are doomed. It’s a pain staking daily diversion to the true call of God for our lives. In those times
of hardship search the Lord and for His strength and continually seek Him. The promise never will he leave us, never will he forsake us so we rest on promise;
the Lord is our helper. [Hebrews 13]

God’s Sufficient Grace Stains:
His grace is sufficient in our moments of weakness if we seek the Lord he strengthens us. Cling to the promise of God’s word through Christ. Seek his for his strength continually. Beloved, let us not forget that God is “Faithful” in all he does. Let move boldly through the confidence of the power of His living and active word that is every word of Christ.

Mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance,
In Christ Love,
Jennifer Pettiford
